Construction: Days 59-61

So far, this visit has been the most exciting.  It's amazing to see our choices coming to life.  The Husband and I are no interior decorators, but I think it looks pretty great, if-i-do-say-so-myself.   We purposely made some pretty "safe" choices in regards to the decor of the home.  

My feelings are that the base should be fairly neutral (within my taste) for re-sell purposes.  I want a home I love, but I also want a home that will sell, if necessary.  Thankfully, my (limited) 'style' pretty much falls in line with those needs.  

Exterior on May 23rd.

This looks better than I could have imagined.  It's tumbled travertine 4x4 tiles, set on the diagonal.  

(no grout installed yet.  The grout will pretty much "match" the color tiles)

This is the other side of the kitchen (to the left of the fridge).  You can see the under cabinet lighting was also installed.  I really think it will "set off" the backsplash.

This is the planning area between the dining room and kitchen (across from the laundry room).

Master Bath counter tops.  They are white 'cultured marble'. (with a film over them right now)

The center section won't have a top on it for a few weeks due to a mistake made on their part with the center part of the cabinets.  They installed a "knee space" (for a vanity chair), when I thought it would be a drawer stack.  Thankfully, they agreed to make the switch - but it may not come in until after we close.  

This is what they will look like.

They dumped all that dirt to start leveling out the landscape.  

Next week we will be getting sidewalks and a driveway!

Construction: Days 48-51

Our city hasn't seen rain in months.  

It's been a horrific dry spell and people were taunting the selfish clouds that refused to give 'it' up.  

Today, however, the clouds opened up and the rain came.  

I'm glad it's raining and hopefully the lakes will fill back up - but it's putting quite the damper (pun intended) on the brick work of our house.  I drove by today and they had made some progress in the last two days - but jumped ship today, due to the weather.  

Here is one of my favorite places in the house (as I'm sure you've noticed because I shoot from this spot all the time!)

Because they can't work outside, they have been inside doing "real" primer and installing the baseboards.  They're painting them today.  

(note that the trim work around the kitchen wall and doorway has not been painted yet)

They also installed all of our interior doors.  I love the detail work in them.  You can also (sorta) see that they installed the shelving in the pantry.  Remember, that trim work will be white - they just hadn't reached that point of the house yet.

I've gotta funny feeling we will be seeing cabinetry in the kitchen very soon! Squeeeeeee. 

Construction: Days 44-47

eeps!  Exciting stuff, ladies and gents.  Very exciting stuff. 

We are down to one month before our estimated close date.  

::insert panic::

I'm not sure how this house is going to be complete in one month - but hey - that's why I don't work in construction. 

 I also have NO concept of how long it should take to pack a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment.  I always pack waaaay to early (cause I'm so danged excitable).  I'm trying to be more reasonable... but I don't know what that feels like.

How early do you pack before a move?  When do I need to get this packing show on the road?

Construction: Days 41-43

Drywall is up!

They have been taped and mudded and the rounded corners have been installed, with the exception of the office and the master bedroom.  It looks so great.
Walking through the space now... it's starting to "feel" really good - like it could be our home.  When I think about all the memories that we will have in the house my heart feels like it is going to implode.

This is a cool detail in the extended entry way.  The ceiling cut it out is over the fridge and a few cabinets.  I think it helps make the long hallway of an entry not feel so "tunnel-ish".

Life is flying at a speed racer pace.  I can't wait to settle into this home and start creating memories!

I'm thinking the exterior brick should be started soon.  We're now in countdown mode.  Only (approx) 6 weeks to go!!

Construction: Days 37-39

We had a crazy busy weekend, but I managed to sneak back to the house on Saturday AND Sunday.  I know I say every stage is the "most exciting".  But seriously - this is some really exciting stuff.  

The house has lost it's echo, and it's really feeling like it's our home!

Construction: Days 31-36

Because I posted the video tour instead of the regular photos on construction day 33ish....then I went out of town last weekend and blah blah blah the construction title dates didn't quite add up.... so I fudged it.  

Regardless, here are the most recent photos. 

We have shingles!  A real roof!!!

They have also completed the wiring/electrical throughout the house.  The electrical inspection is today, then tomorrow they do insulation, then sheetrock starts Saturday.  Whoot!

Here is my recessed lighting in the kitchen.

the green stuff is termite protection.

 these are the air return vents and AC vents.  The return vents are pretty nitfty because they keep the 'pressure' in the house even. Thus, keeping random doors from slamming when you open the front door or a window, or whatnot.  

(Am I the only one who lives in an apartment that does that?  It scares the shitttte outta me sometimes)

They also added that grey stuff where there is an "slant" in the ceiling line (in the bedrooms, playroom, master bath, and family room).  I forgot to ask what it does... maybe one of you wonderful readers can identify it?
